How it all works...

When you decide it is time to remodel, have your kitchen or bath cabinetry designed for a new home, or need any other woodworking service simply give us a call. After discussing your needs and determining that Wyatt Woodworking will be able to fulfill your building requirements, we will set up an appointment to meet with you at the jobsite. Frank does all of the onsite visits himself and all estimates are prepared free of charge. We work anywhere in a one hundred mile radius and have traveled even farther on occasion. As the bulk of our work is done in the shop, distance to the job becomes less relevant than in other construction industries.

Frank will bring samples of some materials you may be interested in, and will sit down with you to start the design process. It is very helpful for you to have pictures you may have seen of the style you are interested in. Images from magazines, design books, online sites, or simply hand drawn sketches are all quite helpful in realizing your vision. There are several examples of wood species and finishes on our site to help get you started. After measuring the job, about a week is usually required to get the first design drafts finished. During this time, if you are connected to the internet, design images and specifications can be refined using email, otherwise telephone and regular mail may be used to facilitate the design process.

When the first draft is completed, Frank will meet with you again and present an estimate and the design. At this point, you will have a very good idea of the scope of work to be performed, a proposed schedule, and an accurate estimate for the work as defined. If you decide you want to proceed with Wyatt Woodworking for your cabinetry needs, an agreement will be signed, and if the design is finalized and work is to begin, a 50% deposit is due with the signed agreement. This covers all of the materials and labor to manufacture your project, and no further payment is due until delivery of the woodwork. If there is still some refinement of the design required, a 10% deposit is due at this time, with another 40% when the design is finalized and approved. A sample of the proposed finish applied to the chosen wood species will be prepared and delivered for approval before construction begins. Additionally any custom moldings and trim details will be drawn or mocked up for approval. Our bids include an allowance section which covers milled parts that may be purchased from other manufacturers, for example carved corbels, posts, and other decorative wood parts; lighting fixtures; glass inserts, etc. The allowances are bid at a reasonable amount to cover these items, and this amount is included in your bid. After the actual items have been chosen and delivered, any difference in the allowance is either charged to the client or refunded in the final  payment.

When the cabinets are delivered to the job an additional 40% payment is due, leaving a retainer of 10% of the total job price with the client until satisfactory installation is completed. You are encouraged to visit the shop to see the manufacturing in process. We are acutely aware of the fact that most of our clients live in the homes where we are working and make every possible effort to protect the site from dust and debris. We will leave your home clean every day when we leave, and always do a thorough cleaning of our cabinets when finished. While we naturally do all of our own carpentry work, we also work with several appliance suppliers, licensed plumbing and electrical contractors, stone countertop, tile contractors, and drywall finishers if you do not already have these subcontractors lined up.

If the way this works seems complicated, that's because it is! Anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken. Having been a general contractor in three states and owned and operated one of the largest cabinet shops in southwest Virginia, Frank is uniquely qualified to oversee the myriad of details required to successfully complete you project smoothly. For more about Frank, read his resume here, and then relax while Wyatt Woodworking puts together your dream kitchen or other cabinetry needs.
